Harold is right about the dormancy. NJ should be just fine.
Look to see what regions your plants are native. Then see what the
humidity & temperature (hot and cold spells) are like for your area as
well as for the native areas. If they are comparable, then make a
section of ground like that of the potting medium. Remember, they don't
like nutrient-rich soils. Plain sand MAY be good. Plant here and
supplement rainfall with good water, as needed.
