We have initiated the electronic distribution of Bay Area Carnivorous
Plant Society meeting announcements in order to provide timely and
low cost announcements to our membership. There is no charge for
the service. This first message is being sent to the BACPS email list
as well as to those who attended the ICPS conference in San Francisco
this year. If you wish to be removed from this distribution list,
please contact Bill Weaver with your name and email address. If you
have comments concerning the programs or announcements, please
contact Geoff Wong.

Time: 12:00 Noon
Place: University of California Botanical Garden, Berkeley
Program: "Expedition to the Tepuis" by Bill Baumgartl

Bill will transport us to the Venezuelan Gran Sabana
on a search for Heliamphora, which inhabit some of the
earth's most inaccessible sites. The tepuis, table
mountains that abruptly rise thousands of feet above
the surrounding plateau, create cool, misty islands that
harbor the graceful pitcher plants and other unique
vegetation. Experiencing the difficulty of reaching
these otherworldly locations gives one a special
appreciation for the plants in cultivation. As an added
feature, Bill will also show photos of other exotic CP
sites from his adventures around the world.

The meeting will start at noon with the social, followed by a business
meeting, the featured program, and finally the raffle and auction. As
usual, we encourage members to bring plants for the display table, raffle,
auction, and plant sales.

The University of California Botanical Garden is located on Centennial
Drive above the main campus, between the Stadium and the Lawrence Hall of
Science. For directions, call 510-643-2755. There is a parking fee and an
entrance fee.
