Hi all:
After moving my remaining Nepenthes into my new greenhouse, and getting the
automated humidity control
system working, I have some pleasant results. The Nepenthes have responded
wonderfully after only a
week. I used a mild dose of miracid for fertilizer, and the humidity has
been around 30 percent. The
growth in these languishing Nepenthes has been wonderful. And they have
really perked up after spending
6 months on a hot dry window sill. Two Holland hybrids that I didn't think
were going to make it have put out
large new leaves. I'm attempting to sprout some VFT seeds as well. And,
the new environment appears to
be driving off any remaining mealybugs and scale. I have found one good
method, for eco-purists, that gets
rid of any encroaching scale/mealybug attack. Just take the plant outside,
and blast the leaf nodes with a
moderate jet of water from a hose. This blows 99% of an infestation away,
and allows you to successfully
treat the Nepenthes with a light dose of mild granular systemic. The water
jet method does not damage the
plant, either.
