Hi Nigel

I have mailed today some fresh seeds of P. nevadensis. Origin of the
plants: Spain, Sierra Nevada, NW slope of Mt. Veleta, above the new,
artificial - Laguna de las Yeguas, 2700-2800m, July 1998, collected by
myself. The seeds are from August 26, 2000.
As I wrote the seeds need a very long winter period. When sowing to early
the plantlets will perish. Put the seeds now at +1C till mid June 2001(!),
with once a 1-2 week period of -2C. Sow them in mid-June. In summer P.
nevadensis needs full sun (much UV) and much wet wind at low temperatures
(day max. 20C, night 5-10C) with high air humidity of 85-100 Percent
relative humidity. In lowland conditions this alpine species, growing far
above the timberline, is very difficult to grow. It grows in peat/granite
sand and needs the same conditions as P. leptoceras. If they do not have
enough UV light they rot.
Many thanks for the P. lusitanica seeds!!
Cheers Juerg
