I've grown this plant for quite some time and have made some similar
observations. Mine however, have on occasion caught yellow jackets (was
dissecting a leaf with some kids one time and a queen emerged causing quite a
stir!) and numerous small insects. It never catches very many.
Nonetheless it is a beautiful hybrid, a bit slow growing but worth having a
few. You could probably speed growth slightly with a light foliar
fertilizing.
