The American Automobile Association (AAA) puts out
regional magazines. One of them, AAA World, is distributed
in the mid-Atlantic region of the US. I received the latest issue
just yesterday and found that it contains an article about CP
with the title 'Please Don't Feed the Bladderworts'.
The article was written by John C. Moyer (jcmoyer@aaaworld.com)
and gets your attention with a large yellow diamond highway sign featuring
the silouette of a monstrous CP of some sort. It goes on to describe
the sorts of things you can find in North Carolina's Croatan National
Forest including: "...bladderworts, butterworts, pitcher plants,
round-leafed
sundews and Venus fly traps." The author must have done his
homework, as evidenced in another part of the article: "While most
plants get their necessary nitrogen from the soil, nutrients are scarce
in swamps and marshes that these 'carnivorous' plants inhabit. So.....
...others have adapted, finding a more proactive approach......"
He goes on to say that these rare plants are protected by law, so look but
don't take. The rest of the article talks about other attractions of the
Park.
Not bad, for a publication put out by a motor club. :-)
