hello,
i responded privately to jeff's question on this subject, but because there
has been so much interest, i thought i'd post it here. i have only had the
problem of ping scapes turning brown and wilting before blooming with
moranensis 'g'. the conditions were as follows: temp 62 f constant, humidity
95% constant, pot standing in 1/2" ro water at all times, and pot about 6"
under a shoplite fixture. as i say, my other pings bloomed normally under
the same conditions. i decided to shade the moranensis 'g' with a piece of
white paper, and within a week, 3 new scapes appeared and bloomed normally.
since i changed nothing else, this seems like good reason to believe that
the light was too intense. so, try shading your moranensis' and see if it
solves the problem. p.s. the neon pink color of moranensis 'g' flowers is
gorgeous.
p.p.s. want to see some pictures of nicely-colored ping rosettes?
goto http://www.rdrop.com/~pcal/mike/pic7.jpg there are about ten different
pics there; sadly you must replace the '7' after 'pic' in the url with 2 or
6 or 12 to see photo 2 or 6 or 12. hope that makes sense.
