I have encountered apomicts in idle reading but have never read up on
the phenomenon. So I am unfamiliar with the mechanism---but I know
which of my books treat it so you don't have to summarize! I recall
that a huge number of _Iris_ species in the S.E. U.S. were later found
to be apomicts of one of the usual widespread species.
Say, did you ever have luck getting germination from those _Genlisea_
_hispidula_ seed I sent?
JdC, I have a few straggly _Nepenthes_ I expect to be cutting back some
time. If I have any extra stuff I'll tell you. With a very few exceptions,
I have no hybrids. The pure species tend to grow a lot more slowly.
Are you familiar with growing plants from fresh, unrooted cuttings?
Wow! A quick look shows more than 35 of my 49 seed pots for _Sarracenia_
have germinated! And in addition to the usual mix of hybrids of my own
making, there are some very nice and interesting purebreds.
Some _U._tricolor_ are producing scapes---maybe this year they won't
abort. Also my _U. novae-zelandiae_ is flowering strong.
More Lentibularious news, my N. American pings are starting their
flowering season, led by _P._lutea_, _P._planifolia_, and _P._
primuliflora_. I never noticed before that all are scented,
especially _P._lutea_.
