Nepenthes Flowering

Does anyone know typically how large a Nepenthes must be for it to flower?
None of mine have ever flowered, but since they are in a 55 gal. terrarium,
I have to cut them back before they get very large. I've seen line drawings
in a book that show a Nepenthes with only approx. 8 leaves, and then flowers.
Is this realistic? Any credence to the rumor that by putting some rotting
fruit in the terrarium, the ethylene gas produced will promote flowering?
