Jan, regarding stigma motility in _Scrophulariaceae_,
this family usually has linear styles, terminating in a small stigmatic
surface (or at least in the Scrophs I have looked at). Where is the motion
supposed to occur? Does the entire style move, or is there just some
small flexure in the stigmatic surface?

I just finished a big project in preparation for my leaving for several
weeks. I have a few people watering my plants for me while I'm gone.
Well, Arizona tap water is no good for CP, so I've had to get purified
water. Up until now I've been buying water in 5gallon jugs, lugging the
jugs to the greenhouse, and watering the plants from them. What a
bother! And since my dear friend who is watering my plants for me is a
lightly-built and not-too-strong-colleague (you can't expect too much
from theoreticians), I wouldn't ask her to lug my jugs (so to speak).
But now all is much more civilized. I have a 55gallon drum (I love this
metric country) with a submersible pump in it hooked up to a hose. When
I water I just take the hose, flick a switch in the greenhouse (I have
two such switches for easy access), and point the hose wherever. BUT
WAIT, THERE'S MORE! I just installed an R.O. unit which produces water
directly into the 55gallon drum. Inside the drum is a switch which
shuts off the RO unit when the drum is full. No fuss. No muss. No
jugs, no lugs.

The waste-water from the R.O. unit is directed into an open reservoir
so the desert varmints like coyotes and javelinas can drink from it,
without having to chew their way into the greenhouse.
