A unique characteristic of N. maxima is an appendage under the lid near the
front. It should be nearly a centimeter long (looks sort of like a 'fang').
N. maxima usually is more brownish and has a wider peristome. There's a photo
of N. mixta in the most recent December CPN - the photos for N. mixta and
N. dyeriana should be switched.
