Oooh!

A major source of irritation occurred yesterday when my _U.delicatula_
flowered and is turning out to be a plant allied with the _U.dichotoma_
group! Drat! This clone of _U.delicatula_ was my best hope! I am
beginning to think that the species may not be in cultivation in N.
America. Several times I have gotten seed from Allen Lowrie without
germination. Jan, do you have any luck with this species?

Oh, I can verify firsthand for any growers out there that _Genlisea
violacea_ can be propagated vegetatively. While leaf cuttings are no
good, trap cuttings are successfully producing plants. I owe this
method to our noble colleague Gordon.

I talked to a companion of Bruce Bednar yesterday who said that Bruce
*is* selling _Vanilla_. In fact, I have several clumps of this plant
from Michael. Every time the plant starts to get much longer than 1m,
our Amazon parrot climbs onto it and turns the vine into cuttings!

This parrot is a source of great entropy in the house. Once I looked
over and saw it had crawled into a tray where I store tuberous _Drosera_
pots for summer dormancy. The bird was finding great fun in gleefully
pulling the plastic identification tags out of the pots and tossing them
to the ground!

Perhaps in keeping with my usual practice, I should refer to the bird
as my _Amazona ochrocephala ochrocephala_. :)
