This might sound grissly, but I prune the vines when they get long
to encourage lower plant growth and lower pitcher development. My
N. Alata has both types of pitchers now, but the upper growth is
kind of tangly with smaller curly leaves and not so attractive. If
you cut the vines within a foot of the plant crown then new shoots
will start to grow after a while (I've found). If there's a less
traumatic way to accomplish lower shoot growth, I'd sure like
to know what it is!
