Yes, I know of the orchid, I even grew an a species of Schomburgkia back
in Connecticut. As I recall, the big pseudobulbs (?) of this plant are
hollow and used by ants as a home/nesting site/suburban residence. Ants
eventually croak off and/or leave detritus/droppings in the pseudobulbs, and
the stuff breaks down giving nutrients to the plant.
