Dear CP Lover's
My name is Christopher Creel. I have just joined the
group and was instructed to write an introduction.
I am a Doctorate student at Syracuse University in the
field of computational neuroscience.
I have absolutely no idea why I am so insanely attracted
to carnivorous plants. My friends find them to be an interesting
topic of conversation parties. Acquaintances find me a bit macabre
when they here what type of plants I grow. And overall they
aren't the dating magnet that other hobbies seem to be. But I
find such beauty in these plants that I simply lose track of time
when gaze at them.
I currently grow Nepenthes, smallish ones. Because of my
current geographical location, I am unable to grow all of the
different plants that I would like in a growing space that would
be appropriate. Syracuse is cold, with no sun to speak of and
quite depressing overall. As soon as I graduate, I'm off to warmer
climates.
My current interests are two fold. First, I am interested
in finding excellent organic fertilizers. I have had very good
success with egg shells (soaking egg shells in a gallon of water
and then treating plants), oak leaves mixed with pin needles
(prepared the same way as the egg shells) and seaweed emulsion.
Second, I am interested in finding Nepenthes for cheap.
I currently have a Nepenthes Thailand Mirabilis, N.ventricosa,
N.rafflesiana, and a N.gracilis hybrid. Not extremely exciting
you say? I agree. Anyone who is interested in selling, trading
or just donating, please drop me a line. The plants I listed before
are simply beautiful and grow like weeds, so cuttings are always
available for trade. I am particularly interested in getting a
N.alata.
Good growing,
Chris
