Good point. However, I'd like to request that people keep their
signatures as short as possible. Also, it is helpful to reduce the
amount of quoted material to the bare minimum. You can do this by
editing the quoted material and using ellipses (...), as I've done
above.

When I create the archive files of our discussions, it takes a lot of
hand editing to cut out this redundant stuff. It doesn't make sense to
have 12-line signatures repeated over and over in the archive or for
the text of a message to be multiply quoted in toto.

I usually have to reformat about half of the postings before they can be
archived. It would really help if line lengths could be kept down to
about 75 characters or so. That will allow people to quote the text a
few times without exceeding the 80 character line width. I need to
enforce an 80 character width in the archives because some mailers can't
handle longer lines properly.

Finally, take advantage of private email whenever you don't think that
your posting is of general significance. This is especially important
now that we have over 120 subscribers. If the traffic grows too large,
many will be forced to unsubscribe.
