Any tricks for moistening peat moss?

I am having trouble wetting the sphagnum moss that I bought
which is completely dry.
In this state the moss seems to have this water repellant
property -- water either sits on top or flows through the
moss without wetting it.
I've been spending a good amount of time massaging and
kneading the water into the moss.
Everything is fine once the moss is wet, but is there
a more easy technique for wetting the peat moss?
