Red VFT seedlings?

I just had about a dozen VFT seedlings come up in tissue culture.

The interesting thing is that, while most of the plants are green with
white roots, about three have roots that are completely suffused
with red. It is too early to tell if the leaves will be red as the
seed coat is still on the cotyledons.

Could it be that the all-red form is a common genetic variation, but is
much less viable in the wild? Perhaps it is only able to survive to
maturity with in-vitro germination.

What has been everyone's experience with VFT seedlings? It seems
that most people propagate by cuttings and so never see any genetic
variablility.
