Can anyone out there give me any specifics on the proper growing
conditions for Utricularia longifolia? I have been growing it
for over a year in a sealed domed container in a 50/50 peat/sand
mix about 2 inches deep. This container has been in a south
facing window in standing water 1/8 -> 1/4 deep so the humidity
inside the dome has always been 100%. The clump had overgrown
the container ( about 20 leaves 1/8 inches across and about 3
to 4 inches long and a myriad of fine, hair-like, growths with
even finer, opposing growths along the length of the growth),
so over a period of several days I gradually opened the dome
to normal room conditions - everything appeared to be going
OK until I removed the dome completely and then all of the
fine growths promptly turned withered and turned brown leaving
the long, broad leaves surrounded in a brown mist. Is this
plant terrestrial, semi-aquatic or aquatic. When I planted
the seeds, I was under the impression that it was a terrestrial
species, but the fine, hair-like structures look a lot like the
structures in the pictures of aquatic species so now I'm not
sure which type it is. I would greatly appreciate any and all
information about it's orgins and preferred growing conditions.

Thanks,

John
