Robert:

When I grew tiny Nepenthes from seed, they at first had
pitchers that were too small for most bugs.
I did this:

1. I went outside and caught some ants and smashed them.
(This is grim for ants, but there is always an endless
supply of them and they are pests).

2. Since ants are small, you can stick them into small pitchers.

3. You take a fine wood toothpick, and stuff the ant into the pitcher
taking care only to touch the ant as you stuff it in, and
not damage the pitcher.

4. The result will be a tiny bloated pitcher with part of an
ant sticking out, depending on the pitcher size.

5. Within a few days, the plant will begin growing larger pitchers, due
to the ant nutrition it has received, making it easier to stuff
bugs into them.

6. When the pitchers get larger, you can drop ants in without
using the toothpick.

7. After that, larger pitchers will form, and the plant can take
small insects. No need for ants at this stage.
