I visited Luther Burbank's greenhouse in Santa Rosa, CA. He had an
ingenious system for maintaining humidity in his greenhouse.
The greenhouse has an A-frame roof. Near the apex of the roof,
he installed a piece of bamboo along the rafters for the length of
the greenhouse. The bamboo cane was split in half lengthwise, so it
formed a long recepticle for water. He filled the half bamboo cane
with water. When the sun heated up the greenhouse, the water in the
bamboo cane heated up and evaporated - creating all the humidity he
wanted in the greenhouse. Simple and highly effective. You can
also do the same, provided you have the sun's heat, with even a
plastic bowl of water say in a terrarium.
I suppose another way to do it is to fill a bucket full of water
and have a fan blow across it. Or buy some kind of steamer or
one of those room mister/humidifiers you use for kids with bad colds.
