Beware!
The fermentation-process does not inactivate tobacco-mosaic-virus
(TMV). I cannot think of a moreefficient way of spreading this
disease. It is not restricted to tobacco and it is known that
orchid-growing smokers infested their plants with viruses sticking on
their hands after smoking.
For virus-diseases the only cure is burning your plants!
Would saturating the tobacco with 97% ethanol prior to soaking the tobacco
kill the mosaic-virus? I think that this could possibly eliminate the
risk of contamination, and make this form of pest controll safer.
