Ken: Thanks for the additional information on your S. purp. hybrid. I'm just
a novice at this, and my plant is one that I picked up at our local garden
center, so probably nothing special. I have noted that the newer pitchers
are increasingly fat. Offhand, I'd say that there is now about a 1:4 ratio
of diameter to length. We've had lots of rain here lately, and the pitchers
are still holding up well. Could it be that the vane provides added stiffness, perhaps missing or reduced in your hybrid?
