In regard to the Carolina parakeet reference, I was under the impression that
they became extinct in the last 40 years-primarily due to the introduction of
spraying to eliminate mosqitoes on the Carolina barrier islands which was the
primary source of food for these birds.. I could be wrong. In any case, the
point about collecting from the wild is very apropos. -alex
