Short red variety was probably Sarracenia purpurea. I understand that
mosquitos have evolved to live in several species of pitchering cps. Saw
a program one time on PBS or TDC of mosquitos wriggling out of their
larval stage and climbing the pitcher
walls. Would love to hike Green Swamp (wade), but everytime I'm through
the Carolinas it's either winter or we're rushed.
