Any D. schizandra growers out there?

I recently found a picture in Alfred Byrd Graf's book "Exotica" of
what appeared to be either D. schizandra or D. erythrirhoza (I know I
mispelled that, but it's a long walk to the Science Library from
here.) The plant was identified as D. schizandra, and comparing it
with pictures of both plants from "The Field Guide to Native Plants
of Australia", it definitely seemed to be D. schizandra.
The problem is it was growing in what appeared to be sandy soil, and
in full sun. Furthermore, its leaves had a deep reddish tint. All
this contradicts everything I've ever heard about D. schizandra.
Is it most likely an incorrectly identified tuberous type, or is
there something I don't know about?
