I know that Randall Schwartz's book ("Carnivorous Plants") suggests
using boiled egg white as food, but I've never tried it, since they
seem to be extremely happy catching their own food in my bug-infested
basement.
Schwartz makes a few suggestions that leave me wary of any advice in
his book (such as using hard tap water to grow plants; if mineral
encrustations become a problem in the sphagnum, he suggests getting
rid of this by putting the pot under a running tap for about half an
hour).
