Utricularia menziesii

Dear Utriculariaphiles,

I have just received a few dormant bulbs of U. menziesii from
Allen Lowrie (cheers!! :-)) but am a little doubtful how I should
treat them. I understand that they are winter growers and should
be started into growth sometime during the autumn months
(April/May in the southern hemisphere). Should I wait until the
bulbs start showing signs of sprouting before potting them up or
should I pot them up right away but keep them dry until they
sprout? The only problem with a 50/50 mixture of peat and sand
(as recommended by Allen) is that it is extremely difficult to
re-wet once it has dried out! Is there any merit in keeping the
medium just vaguely moist until the bulbs start to sprout or will
this lead to their early demise? Questions... questions...!

I would really appreciate your advice in this matter. Thanks a
lot.

Cheers for now.

Best regards
Rogan Roth (in South Africa).
