Tom in Florida and anyone else who's interested. I havn't
grown the 2 plants you mentioned though you may care to try
the technique I use for growing the Aussie affixed aquatic
species.

1. fill a pot to 1/2 an inch of the top with a compost of
2:1 moss peat to silver sand

2. If time allows season it by keeping it damp for a couple
of weeks to allow the structure to set

3. Place the pot in water as follows.

I I
I I
----I************I-----WATER LEVEL
I COMPOST I
I I
I I
IIIIIIIIIIIIII

And sow the seed

4. Maintain a high water level, and once germination has
occured increase the water level to submerge the plants

lip of pot is above the water level

----I------------I-----WATER LEVEL
I V V V I
I************I
I COMPOST I
I I
I I
IIIIIIIIIIIIII

By keeping the water level high enough to submerge the
plants but without swamping the pots avoids washing out any
ungerminated seed.

Hope this helps.

RE CITES on labels
Wim

I have also seen small plants of S.rubra alabamensis with
CITES mentioned on the label in garden centers in the UK. I
believe these plants are micropropergated in the
Neatherlands. The CITES label seams to deliberately pay
attention to the plants rarity as a marketing ploy to
encourage purchase of the plant.
