s. flava leaves turning brown

i recently received a s. flava and have slowly noticed the crown(?) of
the pitcher drying and turning brown. little red spots are multiplying
on both of the pitchers (one is not started to dry out). i have it
sitting 10" away from a window with a western exposure in southern
california, and sits on a saucer with an inch or so of standing water.
i water the plant every 2 or 3 days. i don't know at all where my
problem is as i am a complete ignorant when it comes to cp.s. as such,
any help would be appreciated.
