I've seen the pure green, anthocyanin-free form of S. purpurea on the other
side of Lake Michigan, in the Kettle Moraine area south of Fond du Lac,
Wisconsin. None were in bloom. They were growing in about 50% shade in a
sphagnum bog, in association with various orchids and D. rotundifolia. I
only visited one location, and all the plants there appeared to be without
anthocyanin pigment.
