I've thought about the "trading post" idea and I think I can
probably whip up an implementation in a couple weeks or so.
(when I get some free time)...
There would be a WEB page with a form to fill out:
------------------------- cut here ---------------------
CARNIVOROUS PLANT TRADING POST (posting)
o my name is _____________________________
o I have (check all that apply)
[] plants [] seeds [] cuttings [] pollen
[] a receptive female plant available
o of
Genus: ________________________________
Species: ______________________________
Desc/Form: ____________________________
o for
[] trade [] sale [] free for shipping costs
[] let's talk about it
o Quantity available:
[ 1-2 ] (this is a pull-down form with several choices)
o This offer will expire in
[ a month ] (another pull-down form)
o My email address is: _______________________________
o My phone number is: _______________________________
[ ] RESET FORM [ ] Submit this ad to the database
------------------------- cut here ---------------------
Submissions to this page would be appended to a master file. There
would be a second page to check for queries. The query page would
work similiarly to the regular CP database page. You would be able
to type in a keyword to search for relevant postings:
------------------------- cut here ---------------------
CARNIVOROUS PLANT TRADING POST (searching)
o I am looking for (check all that apply)
[] plants [] seeds [] cuttings [] pollen
[] a receptive female plant
o of
[] any species [] keyword search
Keyword: _____________________________________
[ ] Submit qualified query [ ] show me the entire list
------------------------- cut here ---------------------
To simplify maintainance, an expiration date must be given for postings,
and the software would automatically cull out any old entries.
Does this proposal sound like it would solve everyone's needs?
Note that this would NOT be a forum for posting your entire growing list.
The archive is the place for that. This is simply a real-time way
to dispose of a few spare plants, and to do some Nepenthes "dating
and mating".
