Hi everyone,
A while ago I posted about my CPs unable to produce traps. They
were in a 45-gal. high tank with two 36" wide spectrum fluorescents,
which obviously weren't producing enough light to my surprise. My plants
were growing well, but not producing traps, so after careful deliberation
I decided to turn the terrarium into another aquarium (another hobby of
mine) and move the plants outside. I live in Oregon's Willamette Valley.
The summers are quite dry, very sunny and with an occassional hot spell.
I moved the plants about 2-3 months ago, left them in their pots,
covered them with glass jars for humidity (one of these days I will think
of a better way that is more aesthetically pleasing) and now they are
producing so fast and beautifully, I fear they're going to devour my
dalmation! The colors are incredible - deep reddish-purple markings on
the Cephalotus, nice red traps on the flytraps and practically flawless
markings on the Sarracenias. I'm really happy. I thought I was a failure
at raising CPs when I saw they weren't bouncing back after dormancy this
winter, now all I need to do before getting more is work on a better
setup outdoors that will allow for a nicer display. - Just thought I
would share that with other beginners who are frustarted in particular.
