Hello everyone:
My name is Henning von Schmeling and I have been getting the digest for a
couple of weeks and decided to finally jump in.I have been growing CP's now
for about 7 years and seem to have specialized in Nepenthes, Heliamphora and
any CP's that are winterhardy in Atlanta, GA. Over the years I have
accumulated many plants and am willing to trade and /or sell plants in the US
only. If you wish to find out what I have available send me a personal
message to Hvs@eworld.
Response to Clarke Burnt: I am raising VFT's from seed, scales and from TC.
My best success has been with TC plants that can have 3/4 inch traps ( which
I think is a good size to sell) in 3-4 months and bloom on a regular basis
after 6-7 months out of TC. Scales (asexual reproduction) comes second and I
have had them produce 3/4 inch traps in 6 months and flowers at 12 months.
Seeds are the way I produce most of my plants but it also takes the
longest. Usually it takes at least a year to get sizable traps and two to
flower. I have had one seedling bloom with a two flower head after only 9
months but I do not believe this can be achieved on a regular basis. All my
VFT's receive the same treatment . They get fertilized with a very dilute
Miracid solution (1 teespoon per gallon of water) directly on the soil every
3-4 weeks and get sprayed with an all purpose fungicid every 3-4 weeks as
well (winter every 2 weeks). Watering is done on a daily basis with regular
city water. The soil is changed on a regulatr basis as well because I fear
buildup of nutrients in soil. Seedlings get transplanted when they have
about 3-4 true leaves into regular size non draining flats into 2parts
peatmoss/1 part playsand(silica sand). This is a major feat for me because I
have short fat fingers and transplanting seedlings smaller than a dime into
rows about 1/2 inch apart is hard. Scales get transplanted when they show
good plantlets (about 1 inch in diameter). TC plants come directly out of
the flask in one lump onto soil on the mist bench and within 3-4 weeks get
transplanted into flats one inch apart. I hope this info helps some people
and maybe we can start producing more plants to reduce the pressure on these
wonderful plants in the wild.
Good growing
Henning
