Hello, My name is Andrew Marshall. I have been cultivating cp off and on
for at least 15 years, but only successfully in the last 6. The reason
for the sudden turn was two fold, in that I was introduced to I.C.P.S.
and also found some books on the subject that were of help. I started
following the advice in the books rather then of the plant shop folk. My
plant collection went from a fly trap and a bunch of cactus to roughly
100 species in the first year. And I ditched the cacti. I now have
roughly 250 species of cp. heavy in the area of pitcher plants. I have
a green house 11'x16'x10' heated in winter to maintain min. 60'f for my
Nepenthes collection. I also have a large back yard for the Sarracenia
and winter hardy Drosera, Pinguicula and Utricularia.
I also run a small scale nursury called Cascade Carnivorous Plants from
which I sell surplus plants. I do this mainly to fund the enlargment of
my collection and pay the costs of upkeep. I usually have an assortment
of Sarracenia, Drosera and Nepenthes on hand to sell or trade. Exactly
what varies all the time, on a first come first served basis, unless by
special request. Best time to request Nepenthes is in late winter. Jan.
or Feb.
I strongly believe in the conservation of these plants and to this ideal
I try and propagate as much of my own material as possible. I also
distribute any seed I get into tissue culture and into I.C.P.S. seed
bank. Any rare plants that I get that have not produced seed, such as
Nepenthes, I try as soon as possible to get a rooted cutting out to
people I know will continue to grow it as back-up plants. Places like
the U. of Wa. and Atlanta Bot. Gar.
I like to corespond with folks about Cp., but often am extremely busy and
response time then tends to suffer. Please bear with me on that. If any
one wishes to get info on my collection for trading, buying or selling
please contact me either by snail, or for the moment I am also at
andrewm@eskimo.com
I look forward to any response anybody cares to leave.
Good Growing
Andrew
