Trip to Europe

To all Europeans,

A few of you already know that I'll be going to Europe at the end
of this year. I'll be spending Christmas and New Year's in Milan, where I
lived around 10 years ago. I'll then be spending a few days in France,
England, Germany and Switzerland. I'm organizing with a few local to give
talks and participate in meetings in Italy, Switzerland, England, and
Germany and would like to send out a few dates to these people, not to
mention invite the ones who haven't heard about it yet. I've been very
busy and it's already late at night (actually, morning), so this will be a
short note, I'll write more later.
Anyways, I've left it up to Fiorello Verona who lives in
Povoletto, near Udine, to organize the italian meeting. He probably
hasn't received my letter yet (he doesn't have internet access), so if
any of you 'italiani' could 'per favore' get in contact with him, in case
you know him, and tell him that I'll be free for the meeting during the 1st
week of January '96. I think the best day for me would be Wednesday or
Thursday (3 or 4/1/96). I would just like to know how vacations go in
Italy and if these early '96 dates are too early to get people back from
their vacations or if they'll be working already. Just to help,
Alessandro from Milano (ciao Alessandro!) has told me about a person who
might be more well-known among you than Fiorello. His name is Furio, he's
the owner of a nursery which sells CPs in Povoletto, and most likely
knows Fiorello.
My next stop would be Bern, where I think a good day would
probably be the 5/1/96. How about it Juerg and Klaus? Same questions to
you, about vacations as for the italians. If it's too complicated for
both, the italian meeting could be on Friday the 5th and the talk at
Bern could be on Saturday the 6th. How about it?
I then go on to France, where I plan to spend a few days in Paris
studying TYPE herbarium. Then I'll spend a day with Pierre Sibille in
Rouen, a CPer and long-time correspondent.
The following step would be England, where I'd arrive on the 10
or 11/1/96. I intend to spend 1 or 2 days studying TYPE herbarium at Kew
and hope to get a chance to talk with Mr.Martin Cheek. Hey Loyd, do you
think it would be best to hold that meeting at Reading on Friday the
12th or Saturday the 13th? It's up to you (I'll answer your last mail to
me in more detail later). I just have to check to see if these dates are
OK with Joe Mullins at Reading. How about it Joe?
I would then arrive in Germany around the 16/1/96, where I want to
meet Thomas Carow (who is unfortunately not on the internet), Andreas,
Jan, Joachim (whom we all know from this listserv), and any others willing
to participate in a meeting which I think Jan and Joe are organizing in
southern Germany, probably Tuebingen (sorry Joe, I don't have your
address at the moment, to send you a Cc). Well, I'd at least like to
see the setups of these four people. By the photos Thomas has sent me, it
seems like his setup is quite impressive and who hasn't heard of Andreas'
rare Neps in tissue culture!! Well, I've got about 4 days in Germany,
from the 16 to the 19/1/96, so if nothing works out, I'll at least have a
day for each of you (with train travels at night between each town,
except for Jan and Joe). I have to be back in Milan to catch my flight
back to Sao Paulo on the 21/1.
So any comments and suggestions from you europeans is welcome,
now is the time. I want to confirm this as soon as possible now. And my
apologies to Ivo Koudela and others in the Czech Republic. I doubt I'll
be able to squeeze out the necessary days to go to Prague, unless the
Italian and Swiss talks are held on the 5 and 6/1. This way I could leave
Milan right after New Year's and spend the first few days of '96 there
with you guys.

Best Wishes,
