I plan to build a couple of outdoor bogs for my cp plants this comming
spring. I will be using 2"x12"x8' salt treated wood, with marine plywood for
the bottom. I expect these bogs to last at least 8-10 years. Once the boxes
are made, I plan to put them approx. 3/4 of the way down into the ground.
This will help with winter freeze and srummer moisture. The bogs themself
will be filled first with about 2 inches of pea gravel, then sand. On top of
that, peat and sand mixed with a top dressing of live moss. All sounds good
on paper, but how well will it work?. What I want to know is the pros and
cons for building outside bogs. What should I look out for?, is there a
better way?, and any other advice, helpful hints etc., anyone wishes to
contribute would be appreciated. I'm sure there are a lot of people reading
this message that would like to have an outdoor bog, but do not know where to
start. In addition, I an thinking of adding some Non-carnivorous flowering
bog plants in with my cp plants. Any advice on which plants to use that will
not take over the bog and that will work well with all types of cp plants.
Use command names for me please, it takes me to long to look up the
scientific ones.
Thanks,
Charles Brewer
