My opinion for what it is worth is that although the WWW is the
best answer for the distribution of information on the net today
many people for one reason or another simply don't have access.
Important information, to the extent that it is possible and
practical should also remain accessible, and be maintained
through the CP. archives on the list serve. I would think one
person would be enough to justify the effort. The CP. list serve
is accessible to people from many sights some of which simply do
not have web access. An example is the fidonet which for quite
some time was my best access to the CP. list. I know of others for
whom this was also true in the not to distant past. When it comes
to Information and Education No One Should Be Left Behind simply
because they lack the means to participate if they are interested
and willing to learn. ICPS gets many requests for various bits of
information. Some of the most frequently asked questions are the
same as those asked on the CP. list. "How do I take care of my VFT?"
"Where can I buy CP.?" "Are there any other books about CP. besides
X?" "Are there any clubs in my area?" ect.... Most of the ansures
still go out the old fashond way, snail-mail containing a scrap
of paper with ink on it. Should we also leave them behind because
they don't Have computers and modems?
I do not have time to personally research the answers to all
the questions I receive nor do I "Know it All". Access to the
information in the CP. Archive has gone a long way in easing the
burden of this job, and toward getting answers out to People who
are looking for them. At least 292 people so far this year. More
people read your words than you know!
At this time I'm running a Tandy 3800 HD laptop with a 2400 baud
internal modem 1 serial port for a mouse and one parallel for
the printer. I've read that the web can be accessed in a text
only mode, but I see no personal reason to pay the extra money
necessary to achieve web access until such time as I am able to
make full graphical use of it. Further the PSTBBS.COM address
I've been using for the last year is only just now offering
LIVE access to the net. Before now everything I did there was
delayed some times by 4 to 6 hours before being sent or received.
