newbie intro and looking for seed

Greetings to all,

I have read the CP digests over the past few weeks with great
interest. Like most everyone else in this group, I am very interested in
growing CP's. From a biological perspective, they are one of the most
interesting groups of plants I know of. They certainly make up for the
fact that they can't pick up their roots and move to more suitable
areas! Anyways, I find all CP's fascinating and, from the pictures,
pleasing to the eye as well. My fiancee thinks I'm insane, but she has
put up with many 'weird' hobbies I've picked up over the years (she
blames it on being in the lab too much (too much acetone! ;-))).

For my introduction. I became interested in CP's only a short
time ago and quite by accident. While browsing the web, I stumbled
across some of the CP web pages and quickly became caught up in the world
of CP's. I have found that CPers are very friendly and helpful (a big
THANK-YOU to all) which makes this hobby even more 'desirable' (I don't
know if that's really correct terminology..but). I work as a research
assistant in a limnology (study of freshwater ecology) lab in
Saskatchewan, mainly on the Qu'Appelle Valley lake system (get out your
maps!). I also have limited access to the university greenhouse :-)
which is helpful. They have no CP's (that's all I have to say about that).

I have found that carnivorous plants are very difficult to get in
Saskatchewan, most likely because of lack of interest and poor weather.
I want to try to build up a collection (not a greenhouse full, just a
nice selection) but have found that MOST people(not all) want to trade
rather than sell. I don't blame them, it's a great way to build up a
collection. I have talked to some members of the CP listserv group and
they suggested putting out a public 'plea' (as it were) for CP seed.
One person mentioned that CP seed is often thrown out :-O. I would
gladly pay for anyones seed to be shipped here instead of it being
disposed of. So, if anyone has spare seed they'd like to sell or give
away, please, please let me know. I know this sounds pitiful, but I
really do want to build up a collection.

As a final note, if there are any CPers in Saskatchewan, could
you please e-mail me? I'd just like to find out if I'm the only person
here crazy enough to try growing temperate plants in an area where it
gets to -40C! Thanks to everyone who's helped me so far. I look forward
to being a part of this group.
