For those that prefer to calculate in the Imperial system,
the following is from the CRC Handbook of Chemistry and Physics:

1 BTU = quantity of heat required to raise the temperature of
1 pound of water 1 degree F.

1 US gal = 8.34 lb of water

heat of fussion of water = 144 BTU/lb
