We bought a GPS two years ago for about 600US$ and took it through the
hills of Irian. I reckon the accuracy is better than 50 meter and it is
a super tool to remember the location of plants, not to mention the
possibility to get back to base camp when you got lost. There are some
limitations (you must at least
*/see/* three satelites, and in the rain forest the canopy can be very
obstructive. Nevertheless we have a complete chart of an 10 day walk
through Central Irain which when graphed on screen looks spectacular.
