Hi everyone! My name is Beth Schroeder. I am the Perennial Gardener at the
Institute of Ecosystem Studies in Millbrook, NY. I am in charge of a couple
acre public garden, in other words, I propagate, design, plant, maintain,
create brochures/labels/signs, give tours, develop new demonstrations, etc..
I recently became interested in carnivorous plants when my interest in
native and indigenous plants started to "blossom". I am using as many native
plants in my garden as possible (partly due to there disease and insect
resistance and climate adaptability, unlike many cultivars). I became very
interested in our native bog plants, ie. Drosera rotundifolia, D. intermedia,
Sarracenia purpurea, etc.. I am also interested in other carnivorous plants,
but my main interest is in our natives. I am currently growing these plants
and will be eventually introducing some into our upcoming bog garden. Also
at the Institute is a native plant garden which is run by Judy Sullivan.
This garden has a wetlands bog area with Drosera and Sarracenia already
growing (as well as many native ferns and fern allies).
I'm glad to be joining this listserv.
Talk to you all soon!
