Philippine Nepenthes

Dear All,
Here is a key to the Philippine species of Nepenthes. Note that N.deaniana
is not included (The only known specimen is the type and that is lost!). N.
brachycarpa and N. philippinensis are considered part of N. alata. N.
argentii is not silvery, but is to be named after George Argent who
collected it on Palawan.

KEY TO THE PHILIPPINE SPECIES OF NEPENTHES

4. Pitchers globose; wings with numerous branching (trifid) fringe
elements ... N. bellii
Pitchers various, but not globose; wings with few fringe elements

5. Lid with a basal appendage below .................... 6
Lid lacking a basal appendage ......................... 7
6. Leaf apex truncate .................................... N. truncata
Leaf apex acute........................................ N. alata
7. Peristome adnate to the lid below, forming a short plate ...
N.argentii
Peristome not adnate to lid ........................... 8
8. Peristome ribs prominent, higher than 1 mm, with extended teeth
internally to 3 mm ..... N. petiolata
Peristome ribs not prominent, as high as wide ...... 9
9. Leaf petiolate ....................................... N. alata
Leaf tapering gradually to base, to discernible petiole.. N.
merrilliana

N.merrilliana, N. truncata and N. petiolata all have somewhatr blunt
leaf tips.
