Because of the recent questions on international trade in plants/seed and
the work of Chris to put together a FAQ on the subject, and because
questions may still linger in the minds of some readers, I have been
encouraged to make mention of several articles I have written on the subject
that may be helpful.

A five part series was published by the American Orchid Society (AOS) in the
their Bulletin:

"CITES at 20: Part I. Are We Fiddling While Rome Burns?: The International
Law Background of CITES," American Orchid Society Bulletin, Vol. 62, Number
7, July 1993.

"CITES at 20: Part II. Historical Genesis," American Orchid Society
Bulletin, Vol. 62, Number 8, August 1993.

"CITES at 20: Part III. The Convention on International Trade in Endangered
Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (1973)," American Orchid Society Bulletin,
Vol. 62, Number 9, September 1993.

"CITES at 20: Part IV. Importing and Exporting Plants Under CITES," American
Orchid Society Bulletin, Vol. 62, Number 10, October 1993.

"CITES at 20: Part V. The Little Treaty that Could?" American Orchid Society
Bulletin, Vol. 62, Number 11, November 1993.

A general article, "CITES: The ESA and International Trade," was published
in Natural Resources & Environment (Vol. 8 Number 1, Summer 1993) a
publication of the Section on Natural Resources, Energy and Environmental
Law of the American Bar Association.

I hope that no one is offended by this post. I offer it as a source of
additional information, to answer questions, and to raise awareness of
sources of information available to plant growers that may have relevance to
what you do with your plants. Thanks for indulging me.

Carlo
