I don't know of any U.S. sources either, despite being quite active in
the bromeliad hobby. Evans is right about the rosette dying after
flowering; this is true of practically all bromeliads (in fact, I
cannot think of an exception) but in nearly all cases one or more
offshoots (called pups) are first produced. The seed should present
few difficulties; I would suspect that damp sphagnum would be an ideal
germination medium.
