1) Greenhouse Whitefly
Whitefly seem to go for the colour yellow - it could
be worth hanging up yellow sticky things to trap them.
I used to grow tomatoes alongside the CPs in my
conservatory. D. Binata, D. Capensis etc were useless,
D. Peltata attracted a few whitefly, but a very sickly
yellowish D. Intermedia seemed to just hoover them up.
2) Winter VFTs
As I said before I grow my VFTs very hard, keeping them
only slightly moist in winter during which they occasionally
get frozen. They resort to shortish wide leaves flat on
the compost with vestigial traps. Come summer they
produce normal decent-sized traps which colour up
well. However they are definitely inferior to plants which
are kept growing in winter through artificial light and heat.
3) Aphids
It is not a good idea to feed aphids to sundews, as one always
seems to escape and start a colony on the underside of the
leaf. However sadists will appreciate the effects of feeding
aphids to Byblis Liniflora - quite often the aphids will
manage to start quite a sizeable colony but the plant always
wins in the end.
4) Drosera Capensis Alba
I seem to have reopened a few wounds about the exact nature
of this beast. Does anyone have any experiences of it not
coming true from seed or cuttings?
