About a year and a half ago I purchased a D. erythrorhiza subsp.
squamosa tuber from Allen Lowrie. I kept it in a cool dry place in my
kitchen until it sprouted a few months later. I planted it in coarse
(1-2mm) quartz sand with 10-20% long grain dried sphagnum. It grew for
about three months until the heat and dryness forced it to go dormant.
While it was growing, the margins of the leaves were an intense beet
red. A couple of new tubers were formed, one of which survived the
summer.
That tuber sprouted a month or so ago and now it is in a pot outside
just coming out of the the soil. The strange part is that there
is only a very faint reddish margin to the leaves!
Has anyone else seen this behavior? The intense red margin is a major
part of what makes this plant so beautiful. What do I need to do to
get it back?
