Firstly, let me introduce myself. My name is Madeleine Groves and I have
been working with carnivorous plants for over 5 years now. I was working
for a UK-based NGO, Fauna and Flora International,on their cp projects until
late last year. I also ran the Secretariat of the IUCN/SSC Carnivorous
Plant Specialist Group (CPSG)from this organization. I am now on a tempory
contract at the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, UK, where the CPSG Secretariat
and Newsletter has moved to. Any questions on this group can be
e-mailed to me on M.Groves@rbgkew.org.uk
The CPSG has undergone a slump in activity, but is now back on line to work
with other cp groups around the world, produce a cp Action Plan (a document
to pinpoint the status of cps and make recommendations for future conservation
of species and habitats), and set up cp projects where needed. I work mainly
on Sarracenia species especially working with landowners and government/
non-government organizations to get conservation projects up and running.
I will be posting requests over the next 6 months for info which will be
included into the cp Action Plan and I would greatly appreciate
everyone's input. First off, the rise of the use of cps for their
medicinal properties. I'm a bit behind in this area so if anyone would
like to post the main species used, what they are used for and any other
relevant info I would be most grateful. In particular, the use of VFT's
and any updates on the use of Sarracenia purpurea as medicinal plants.
Many thanks and look forward to hearing from everyone.
