Five weeks in and around July could be a very long time for a plant that
wants ice cubes at its feet when the temps soar. _Never_ put your CPs in
the care of someone clueless. From what you describe, the roots just died
from the heat. If the medium dried out, or heated up, just _once_ on a hot
day, you could lose your plant.

Snails are targets on healthy big plants. Just get up early in the morning
and goosh them. Then drop them into the pitchers. Easy nitrogen and
protein. If you have them visible and persistant: repot your plants and
throw out your growing medium which will contain egg cases.
