A warning about oily sand.

Just my own word of warning: I purchased about 20 bags of
"All-Purpose" sand from a local building supply store. The
labeling on the bags listed "Soil Amendment" as one of the
appropriate uses, so I assumed it would be OK for my newest
bog. I got a nasty surprise when I mixed it into the peat
and hosed it down - an oil slick! It is a good idea to buy
a single bag and test it for salt and oil before you waste
too much money, time, and effort. IMHO, elbow grease is the
only form of petroleum one should put into one's bog.
